Hello Deco and Mid-Century Friends, Happy New Year! We hope your holidays were happy.

With the hustle and bustle of the season in the rearview mirror, we are looking forward to an exciting 2024.We are kicking off the new year with our first event on February 22: American Signage, Detroit Design, and the Art Deco. This is a virtual event coming to you from the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio. Did you know LFR Bellows, a licensed manufacturer of Claude Neon tube electrical signs, once operated out of what is now the Jam Handy building? Bellows made the neon signs for Olympia Arena, the General Motors building, the Ambassador Bridge, and the Penobscot Air Beacon. This talk will also build an awareness about the Museum’s work to preserve these often-overlooked art forms. This program will be recorded, so if you can’t attend it live, everyone who registers for the event will be sent a link to watch at their convenience.

Lights, Glamour, Action!

March 1 and 2 we are teaming with the Historic Redford Theater to bring you a Mid-Century/Art Deco weekend like no other! Together we will be presenting a thrilling blend of futuristic intrigue and glamourous nostalgia. We start the weekend with Blade Runner (1982). Humanoid robots called Replicants run amok in Ridley Scott’s science-fiction masterpiece, with Harrison Ford as the detective assigned to terminate them. March 2 Gold Diggers of 1933 (’33) will be the centerpiece of our Art Deco Extravaganza. Dress up in your Art Deco era finest and join us in the balcony for drinks, appetizers, theater tours, and special intermission entertainment.
