Guardians of Art Deco: Celebrating Iconic Skyscrapers

Detroit Month of Design reception on Thursday, September 12th, where you can meet the creators.

Join the Detroit Area Art Deco Society for an exclusive reception on the evening of Thursday, September 12th, where you can meet authors Chris Hytha and Mark Houser. Their celebrated book, Highrises Art Deco: 100 Spectacular Skyscrapers from the Roaring ’20s to the Great Depression has been converted to a special architectural photo installation. The exhibit is part of the Detroit Month of Design.

The photography exhibit showcases the stories from America’s most remarkable Art Deco skyscrapers, including several iconic Michigan landmarks. Don’t miss the exhibit at downtown Detroit’s magnificent Art Deco Guardian Building from September 1st to 30th, 2024.

Hytha’s use of drone-scan photography showcases the design and craftsmanship at the summits of iconic Art Deco buildings, while Houser recounts the histories of each skyscraper and the people and companies behind its construction. The creators will give a special presentation of their favorite skyscraper stories and images in the historic club floor on top of the Guardian Building, an Art Deco landmark.

Afterward, join us for wine, beer, light bites, and music at a reception and book signing in the Guardian’s dazzling main hall.

You can even take your favorite Art Deco skyscraper home! A limited number of signed Highrises prints and coffee table books will be available during the event, and the full-size exhibition canvases will also be available through a silent auction.

Reception: Thursday, September 12th, from 4:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Tickets Can Be Purchased Here!
