Century of Progress Homes – April is World Art Deco Month!

Join DAADS + CADS for a presentation on the”Century of Progress” homes with Todd Zeiger, Director, Northern Regional Office of Indiana Landmarks.

The Detroit Area Art Deco Society in partnership with the Chicago Art Deco Society will host a Zoom lecture on the Century of Progress Homes as part of our Art Deco celebration.

In the depths of the Great Depression in 1933–34, the House of Tomorrow at the Chicago World’s Fair offered millions a hopeful vision of a brighter, easier future.

Titled the “Century of Progress,” the fair drew 39 million people to see how advancements in science and technology could improve daily life. Very few structures remain from the fair, but five exhibit houses, including the House of Tomorrow, survived and traveled by truck and barge across Lake Michigan to Beverly Shores, Indiana. The houses remained in private hands until the land they occupied became part of the Indiana Dunes National Park in the ’60s and ’70s.

Join DAADS + CADS for a special presentation of “Century of Progress” with Todd Zeiger, Director, Northern Regional Office of Indiana Landmarks. We will take an in-depth look at the Florida Tropical, Rostone, Armco-Ferro and Cypress houses, as well as the House of Tomorrow designed by architect George Fred Keck.

This will be a fun look into what was thought to be wildly modern in 1933.

Tickets are free for members and $15.00 for non-members. Please register here.
